The unique process of Cold Painting was originally developed in Austria at the end of the 19th century, and popularised by the Art Deco era sculptors. Several layers of dust paint (polychrome) were applied to the statue and finished fired. This process was derived from enamelling, but differs in that polychrome paint is used instead of powdered glass. This process gives each statue its specific characteristics, and colourisations that creates its distinctive finish.
