This statue is from Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth. This is a reproduction of the original sculpture c1920 by the famous German sculptor, Otto Schmidt-Hofer (1873 - 1925)

The Story of Icarus

The sun was closer than it had ever been.
Icarus felt its heat through the wax, through the feathers, through his skin. Below him, the sea stretched endlessly—blue, glittering, and impossibly small. He laughed as the wind lifted him higher.
“Not too high!” his father called.
But the warning faded behind him.
For the first time, Icarus was free. No walls. No labyrinth. No shadows of stone closing around him. The sky belonged to no king, no prison, no god.
He climbed.
The wax softened.
A feather slipped from his wing and spun downward. Then another
Icarus looked toward the sun. It burned like a golden doorway, bright enough to swallow every fear he had ever carried.
He reached for it.
The wings broke apart.
As he fell, the sea rushed upward. Yet for one final moment, Icarus smiled—not because he had escaped death, but because he had touched the impossible.
And far above the waves, the sun kept shining.
