ARAB TRADER BERGMAN STYLE ART DECO BRONZE FIGURINE STATUE

An Art Deco, after Bergman, Arabian Trader, free standing sculpture in pure hot cast bronze.

Description

This sculpture portrays the Arab trader as a master navigator and cosmopolitan merchant, shaped by the vast networks of the Silk Road. In the bustling urban bazaars of the Middle East, traders exchanged luxurious textiles, shimmering silks, exotic spices, frankincense, and prized Arabian horses. Their journeys connected distant cultures, linking Africa, Arabia, Persia, India, and Europe through commerce, diplomacy, and storytelling.

Well-traveled and affluent, the Arab merchant became a romanticized figure in Western literature—often depicted as worldly, mysterious, and alluring. These imaginative portrayals also influenced the elaborate costumes and theatrical gestures of Art Deco dancers, whose flowing garments and stylized movements suggested the glamour of distant lands.

This piece is a reproduction of the original Art Deco version by Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861–1936), a renowned Austrian sculptor celebrated for his finely detailed miniatures. Bergmann’s work combines decorative elegance with historical fantasy, transforming the figure of the Arab trader into a symbol of adventure, luxury, and cultural exchange.

This one bears the name "ManGreb" & an Urn Stamp.
